5hr layover at JFK. What to do ?

I will be traveling to Europe through JFK with my family this December and we have a 5 hour layover each way. ( Dec 21 and Dec 30 )

Is this enough time to get out of the airport to visit something worth seeing?

Any ideas and how to go about it are greatly appreciated !!
