Before you read this... yes, I have been on FT for 10 years, and yes, I fly AA a lot. But I have never used a discount code before so I have a situation which I am looking for some counsel.
Situation:
- Trying to book 4 tickets this summer using my elite rewards 10% discount (all Ts and Cs are met).
- Since fares to my destination are higher than anticipated, I've been watching them and finally found them at a 'reasonable' price ($780).
- In the e-mail with the discount code, there's a big button which says 'Book and Save'. Unfortunately, when I clicked that link to book yesterday, I got directed to a dead AA webpage (which 24 hours later is still dead).
- So, I decided to put the tickets on hold yesterday through the standard AA process, and got the last 4 tickets in the fare class.
- Today, when I went to pay for them, I realized there's no place to add the code in the purchase process. And there's no more fare class availability left, so the fare is $100 more/ticket now.
In calling the EXP desk, they were clueless as to how to help me. They bounced me to AA.com, who said that the AAdavantage CS people would be the only people who could help me since it's an AAdvantage promo, but they are closed.
The EXP desk is extending my hold through Monday so I can call AAdvantage CS, but they also said that they didn't think they'd be able to help. I also asked if the rate desk could help... no. What about buying w/o the discount and seeing if the refunds desk could help? No... Seems they are all pointing back to this being an AAdvantage promo and nobody else could help.
So need some guidance. Am I screwed since I didn't put in the discount code in the original booking process, even though the link in my e-mail doesn't work?
If so, I'll move on, but seems like this is an honest situation which I'm just asking AA to do the right thing and help me get the discount I earned.
