I've booked a lot of hotels using Hilton's Hhonors web site over the years. I couple of months back, I booked a room at the Hilton Garden Inn near Malpensa Airport this way, pre-paid rate @95 Euro, with breakfast.
A day after the booking, I got an email directly from the hotel, advising that they were having trouble with my credit card. There was one piece of information that needed to be corrected (month of expiry) which I did over email, and got a brief note that my reservation was ok.
I left things alone for a while, but then logged into HHonors to see my booking. When it didn't appear, I searched using the confirmation # and my name and got a response showing the reservation as canceled by the hotel.
I called HHonors on Monday and was transfered to a 'Guest Assistance Specialist' who said she saw the reservation as canceled, and would contact the hotel in Milan to check on what had happened.
Within 12 hours, I got an email again directly from the hotel saying that my reservation was in place, and my credit card had been charged. The HHonors web site is still not showing the reservation.
Should I trust the email from the hotel in the absence of a confirmed reservation showing up under my bookings in HHonors? I'd appreciate advice on how to get the reservation back in Hilton's central reservation system, or whether this even matters?
