I booked a Star Alliance trip to Australia using US Airways DMs, in First Class on all long-haul sectors. Just received an alert that United has swapped equipment on CDG-EWR from a 767 to a 757 with no First Class, and downgraded me to Business.
Ordinarily, I'd re-route through Heathrow to get back on a 3-class plane. But now that US has left the Star Alliance, I (presumably) can't do so, right? (I can't re-ticket the entire multi-sector itinerary on OW metal as the award space isn't there.)
Should I try to get compensation? Should I try to get that flight ticketed on BA? It seems screwy that they could theoretically downgrade my whole trip and I'd have no recourse but to pay $150 and re-ticket.
It's not my fault that they can no longer re-book me into the same class of service that I paid for.
Your thoughts are appreciated...
