Change booking one way J to return First (A)/WT

If I have a one way J class fare purchased by a travel agent which I under stand is fully flexable and changeable?

Can I call BA and have them switch it to a A class first fare outbound and any cheap WT return which is showing available and should cost less according to BA.com
