I do not understand why United refuses to count our dollars paid for an upgraded airfares they offered us during booking our tickets. I was thinking this extra money paid directly to United and purchased directly from United would count towards our 1K Elite status and $10,000.00 spending requirement along with our mileage. We were shocked when our April trip was posted only at the base fare and our first class ticket issued by United did not qualify for the additional $299.00 each way we paid for the upgrade. They would give these upgrades for free to other frequent flyers, but the only reason we purchased it was because it was offered during check out and there was no warning that it would not count towards our PQD. I assumed it would count towards our PQD. Now, we will be $1,560.00 short in PQD for 2014 and we already purchased tickets for the remaining 6 trip for 2014 including several upgrades. We wasted extra thousands for no reasons and United is benefiting from us.
