I fly into Austin TX 4-5 times a year, and more often than not, have problems with Hertz Gold service. Problems range from fairly innocuous failure to post points to my airline account to more irritating issues such as failure to have a car ready or available, thus defeating the purpose of Gold service.
On my last rental, I specified a mid-size car, which Hertz defines as a Toyota Corolla or equivalent. When I arrived and started to pick up my car, I had been assigned a Nissan Versa, essentially a sub-compact by my standards although Hertz calls this also a mid-size. I need a secure trunk space and the lot was full (Friday afternoon) so I requested a different car and indeed got a Toyota Corolla. However, when I reviewed the rental contract on the "new" vehicle, the rate was $10/day higher than my reservation specified.
I had to go to a higher level manager to get the situation resolved. Everyone was generally cordial, but various mix-ups happen almost every trip to Austin. Is this a problem with the Hertz reservation system or the people in Austin who are filling the reservations? I would like to minimize this problem but don't really want to switch to another rental car company.
