Redeposit/change policy for 3rd party award tickets?

Howdy.

Quick emergency-ish Q:

Have friend whose mom is in ICU and deteriorating. Friend is out-of-town and I don't want to worry him.

If I just make a reservation for him, can I just keep changing it and/or redeposit without penalty?
