Travelling from Belgium to Canada. Best way to connect?

I'm thinking of going on a trip to Toronto. I could go straight (more expensive) go to a European airport (London, Paris, Frankfurt) or American airport (O'Hare, Logan, JFK)

I've heard some horror stories of the TSA in the US. Also American airports are rated as the worst in the world; and since I'm a dark Indian with an English passport it probably won't help transiting in the US:(

What do you think is the best route?
