There were rumors when UA announced that they were retiring the legacy UA 757-222 fleet (stupid decision) that they would keep p.s birds and there were some rumblings that the ETOPS birds would also stay, some of which have winglets. Seven of the ETOPS birds are now p.s, which leaves 9 remaining to do trips to Hawaii. The 737-900 cannot do routes like DEN-Hawaii, so unless they plan on getting something else to fly these routes, the remaining ETOPS birds have a purpose. Any update?
