Free bag if protected on other airline?

Hi All,

Wife and I are both silvers travelling DTW-ORD-SFO. The DTW-ORD went WX so UA protected us both on a direct DTW-SFO flight since we'd miss the connection in ord. When I went to check-in online I saw that that DL, of course, wants $25 for a bag. I realize I should have asked when I was talking to UA at the counter (so used to not asking about paying for bags!), but is there anyway or any right to us getting our free bag allowance on DL that we would have on UA as silvers? Would we go back to the UA desk, call UA, or claim afterward? We still have some time before the flight to deal with it.
