I'm sure this has been covered many times but I don't have sufficient Internet access to do a proper search.
I am flying to EWR connecting through NRT (originating in a third country). First leg is ANA second leg is United. Layover is about 12 hours and I'd like to head into Tokyo fora few hours to grab food and maybe see a sight. Booked flights through United website.
Can I check my luggage through to EWR and leave the airport with only hand luggage?
