upgrading paid stay using points?

Just wondering: Is there any way to upgrade a paid stay using points? Or was this SPG benefit eliminated during the merger?

I'm aware of the option to straight-out redeem for a premium room / suite, but the value proposition doesn't tend to be overly exciting.
