Hopefully this is the correct spot to ask, since it's not specific (that I'm aware of) to a specific airline program since it spans multiple airlines.
I have two one-way award tickets on KE that return from ICN to ORD on 5/1/20. Theoretically it arrives at 9:40 a.m. into ORD.
However, we have to get "home" still in ALB. Fortunately there are lots of airlines/choices.
I have some upgrades I can use on AA, so was thinking about the 12:45 p.m. that departs ORD and arrives into ALB.
We have GE, so I'm fairly certain that 3 hours would be enough, even in ORD to get through customs and check in for AA and all that? (but maybe not, is there something I should know about connecting this way?) I believe our baggage *cannot* be checked through, so we'll have to pick up bags, leave area, and re-enter to AA check-in area, check bags and re-clear TSA security.
There are other flights we can get, although not necessarily a direct one (AA has ones that'll have one connection), or use another airline like United/DL but won't be able to use the upgrades (although better to not miss a flight, IMO).
The other consideration I think is that this is a bit out (May 2020). I'm not sure how many schedule changes KE is likely to do, but probably more on the AA front if something happens.
Thoughts?
Should I wait (and risk losing upgrades due to inventory buckets), until things get closer?
Chance it and if something changes, I can always cancel for refund on AA and rebook elsewhere?
Is the 3 hours enough to clear everything?
