According to this The Australian article, CX will be charging an extra $25 AUD per person effective immediately on flights leaving Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for its Australian flights to/from SYD, MEL, PER and BNE (might also include CNS?). I know the extra $25 ($50 return) won't affect much as fares often change depending on fare class and demand, but it does seem abit cheeky on CX's part to even charge one.

CATHAY Pacific will charge a weekend levy of $25 for travel for flights departing Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. The Hong Kong-based airline said promotions, such as early bird sales, would be excluded from the levies, which begin today. It also yesterday released traffic figures showing passenger numbers and cargo uplift increasing in September. Cathay and offshoot Dragonair carried 2.49 million passengers, up 4.6 per cent compared with the previous September. The two airlines carried 147,307 tonnes of cargo, an encouraging 14.5 per cent rise on the previous year. Cathay general manager revenue management Patricia Hwang said leisure traffic eased after the summer peak but demand was still generally robust on key markets. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/busi...-1227092969444 |
