So my friend had flight from Norfolk, VA to ICN via SFO 2/15, i helped him and upgraded him on the domestic portion confirmed.
There was a MX delay in Norfolk and missed the IAD TO SFO and then all flights were so booked they booked him in Hilton overnight and then upgraded him to Global First from IAD TO NRT on 2/16!! They got "special authorization". I talked to him on 2/15 and said wow you are luckiest guy i have ever heard of.. but of course it didnt stick cause on 2/16 after showing up to IAD they cancelled his whole reservation!! They rebooked him on IAD to SFO in Econ and then SFO>ICN on 2/18!! Then they would not waived even one baggage fees! He had 2 bags from Norfolk to ICN and if they were not delayed it would have been free since he was booked in First from Norfolk to SFO..
I know the upgrade to GlobalFirst was overkill but even a upgrade to Businessfirst and free bags to icn would not have been a crazy request for a a 72 hour delay! Jesus I try to defend United but man they are making it really hard..
