On a recent stay at a newly-renovated Courtyard, the room had a small sign on the desk with a QR code you could scan to leave a tip for housekeeping using a credit card or ApplePay. When I scanned it, it explicitly said that 100% of any tip you chose to provide would go directly to housekeeping, and said that the hotel paid the cost of any convenience fee charged to use that method. This was the first time I had seen something like that, but I was happy to see it - I rarely use or carry much cash these days, so having appropriate cash for such tips on hand has become quite problematic.
I dont think it had any place to enter a room number, so I assumed it may just go into a pool for the housekeeping staff - rather than specifically to the person who actually cleaned my room, but I didnt bother asking the front desk about that.
I hope more hotels adopt this.
