This is a dual Doubletree and Doubletree Residences property. Opened late 2023. (Do not confuse with the Doubletree Hotel and Residences Nanshan - which BTW is operated as a single hotel, not dual. Very confusing)
It is convenient to the airport, 10-15 minute drive. Beyond that convenience, it is far from everything. Its a good drive in traffic to anywhere in Shenzhen and at least 45 minutes to Hong Kong. You will be dependent on taxi.
Property is standard China Doubletree. Wood panels all over, but otherwise sorta blah.
The property has two main towers. The main hotel DT and the DT Residences. The executive lounge and restaurants are shared by both. The EL is never staffed, but soft drinks are provided. In lieu of happy hour, dinner buffet in hotel restaurant is provided.
Staff were quite helpful. However most didn't speak anything but Chinese. (Despite being so close to Hong Kong, and fact most Western brands usually have at least couple English speakers)
The Residences don't come equipped with dishes/silverware/pans/etc.. They will However "rent" them to you for additional cost! Yes that's right, the Residences (that have cooktops, dishwashers, and full size refrigerator) don't come with dishes/etc... without paying extra. I complained about this and was refunded as a one-time courtesy. (🙄 thanks for not making me pay for something you're supposed to get)
The buffet for being free wasn't bad. However i wouldve been disappointed to pay. They advertise fresh seafood. One night they had oysters. Otherwise it was very fatty and thinly sliced choices of pork, chicken or fish. Just plopped on grill. Nothing special at all. They had a noodle bar and two or three Chinese dishes. Everything else was overcooked vegetables. Oh BTW, the Chinese dishes were all cold. The heating elements weren't working at that section. The dessert section had ice cream/sorbet but otherwise all desserts were finger food/tea time type desserts. If you like Chinese beer, one was stocked on buffet, along with Coke/Sprite.
Breakfast was IMO much better buffet. Normal what'd you'd expect at any major Hilton/Marriott hotel in China. No issues here.
I stayed three nights and for rest of visit moved to an apartment unit at Hilton Shekou Nanhai. The distance/ lack of transport was just too much.
Bottom line a nice hotel. However wouldn't recommend. It didn't look like anyone else was doing that either. The place was a virtual ghost town. There were more staff than guests. (I guess why they decided to give dinner free instead of lounge happy hour). The rates also suggest no one is booking. The Residences were running 600CNY (including service charge) which included breakfast, approx 500CNY w/o breakfast. (If qualify for EL access, dinner is included since no happy hour currently). This was rate booking literally the day before arrival.
