Next September we will be traveling IST>XXX>IAD for our return to the States. I'm trying to determine best European city in which to connect to a UA flight, from what is almost assuredly going to be a Turkish Air flight out of Istanbul. When looking at what I would consider a reasonable fare (either E or PP) and total flying time, I see connections in FRA, CDG, and MUC. I'm also aiming for a layover of about 3 hours, hopefully allowing for flight delays, customs, etc.
I know FRA can be crazy, so thinking I will try to avoid it. I've identified one morning flight connecting in MUC which fits my criteria. Having gone through MUC once before, our experience was pretty smooth. There is also one mid-morning flight connecting in CDG with a somewhat longer layover (MUC 3 hours, CDG 4 hours). I'm hoping to do this with no checked luggage, but that depends on how much shopping my better half does. :)
The MUC connection seems to be the better choice (earlier arrival back home, shorter layover) vs CDG, but wondering if anyone has any personal recommendations on either of those two connecting airports. (If you want to make the case for FRA I'm open to consideration.). TIA
