I hardly ever check a bag, but on that rare occasion that I do, its nice to be able to follow my bags progress on both the AA app and on my iPhone using an Apple AirTag.
Yesterday I checked a bag for my LAX-LHR flight, and until it arrived at baggage claim at LHR (one of the first to arrive, and reasonably quickly after we pulled into the gate), neither the AA app nor the AirTag gave me any assurance that the bag was actually on the flight.
As for the AA app, it showed that I had checked my bag in at LAX, but nothing else. Is that normal for international (or for LHR) flights? The app never assured me that the bag had been loaded on the flight. The only update I got from the app was after I had my bag at LHR the app showed that it had been delivered.
That would have been ok if the AirPod had done its bit. The AirPod showed that my bag was very near to the aircraft at LAX, but when we pushed back from the gate and started taxiing, the AirPod was unable to update my bags status. Until 11 hours later when the bag was in my possession, my iPhone showed that my bag had been near the aircraft 11 hours earlier at LAX. For all I knew it was sitting in a luggage cart, or worse yet on the floor, somewhere at LAX.
Look, I knew all along that there was a high probability that my bag was on the flight. But I would have liked to have known it for certain. Is this normal for my flight? Is it normal that the AA app doesnt update luggage status for international flights? And that my iPhone (and no iPhone) was not able to detect the AirTag once it was in the belly of the 77W? Or was this just anomalous?
