How do I get a Avios refund for a cancelled flight when partners are involved?
Booked a Qatar flight with Jet Blue miles (DOH-MIA), and a connection to an American flight (MIA-SAN) booked separately with BA Avios.
The DOH-MIA flight was cancelled after boarding due to mechanical, and I was re-booked on a DOH-LAX flight the next day, meaning I no longer needed the MIA-SAN flight, which I then cancelled.
BA refused to refund taxes/Avios as I cancelled within 24 hours of departure. I emailed BA again to appeal, as it was a last-minute mechanical delay and there was no way to cancel earlier. This time I was told that as QR was the operating carrier for the delay, it was their problem.
Both QR and American pointed their fingers at the other carriers involved.
Am I out the Avios, or is there some other BA escalation contact I should try? Should I try another carrier? Appreciate any thoughts on this, thanks!
