We have included your original post below:
They say all good things come to an end, and while I'm not sure how much my contributions have necessarily been helpful or useful, I have tried to provide some insight into what happens behind the flightdeck door. I realize this is not an airport, so there is no need to announce my departure, but regardless, I am.![]()
As some of you know, my wife is a captain at American, and I am one at United. We both fly the 787, and we've passed each other in flight over the Atlantic a few times, which is kind of cool... Anyway, I am leaving because I am disappointed in how much animosity a thread in the AA Forum generated. The thread in question was trying to provide insight into cabin announcements. Someone took offense to my defense of the crew, which escalated. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth, and while I'm a big boy who can handle being told when I'm wrong, this was not the case. Honestly, it felt almost like bias against flight crew in general. That and the general mean spirit that pops up too often here have led me toward this decision.
I doubt I'll be missed. I'm just a pilot and not knowledgeable about our FF programs, etc , but I have enjoyed sharing what insights I can.
Over the past 8 years, I've tried to be a resource to all of you. I have dozens of PMs with requests for various things, which I've always been happy to do. I tried to keep things lighthearted, but at times, I certainly got into "spirited" conversations with some. At the end of the day, I love my job, and it has been an honor to have met many of you and to have flown those I have not.
I hope that the moderator will not delete my post. I wish all of you safe travels, PDBs, your first meal choice, and, of course, safe travels, always. If you are at EWR and on a 787, please stop by and say hello. I'm the handsome older guy in the left seat.![]()
