Unaccompanied Minor on BA/AA connection at LHR

I would like my daughter to travel to PHX from EDI

Understand that, as she is 14, she would be allowed to fly BA alone, without assistance.

With BA flights, that would be simple but choosing the AA operated codeshare flight LHR-PHX is significantly cheaper (in Y).

AA’s policy for bookings made with the airline is that she would need to be 15 to avoid using the $150 each way charge for the escorted minor service.

But if I book the multi-leg flights directly with BA, namely EDI-LHR on BA metal and LHR-PHX on BA coded flight (AA metal), I am not sure what happens.

She won’t have or need an escort at EDI for flight to LHR and presumably would just be dumped into LHR T5 to make her way to T3, using the bus, again unaccompanied. She knows what to do, as a frequent traveller (with me previously).

What I am trying to de-risk is what happens at AA gate when she comes to boarding LHR-PHX flight as she will not have checked directly with them, nor would she have needed to have paid this $150 fee for <15 year old children.

Similarly if I booked the whole thing with AA and paid the fee, there would be no escort at EDI and none at LHR, for the same reason as above.

It is odd that there is no consistency between BA and AA and we have this 1-year discrepancy.

Can anyone help to figure this out?
