IBIS Luxembourg Aeroport

2 nights stay, Saturday to Monday in March.

This hotel is not to be mixed with IBIS budget, which is close by.

Member recognition, as platinum: Early check in at 11.00, late check out at 16.30, room on top floor ( 5 floors) facing the airport - all after my request and no problem at all to get them. Welcome drink, but no welcome amenities - which the IBIS brand not have to provide.

The room is farthest away in the corridor, so no neighbor on one side. I was not disturbed by other guests. I could hear airplanes and, besides on Sunday, construction work from nearer to the airport, and background white noise from the road when the window is open. When it's closed, not much sounds come through. On Monday morning, some drilling, did not hear it in the afternoon.

You cannot see the runway from the hotel, but you can see the flights on the way in and after take off.

I did turn off the Aircon, from where it came warm air, instead opened the window. The room temperature is then between 19 and 21c, dependent of where I measure it with my temp gun. I like it cool, so this is good.

The room size is likely enough for 2 people, totally fine for singles. The room is bright, besides the entrance, and the design is similar to IBIS Alicante, which I also wrote a review on in January. The hardware is better here, the toilet/bathroom as an example, is not a plastic box, like in Alicante.

The room is fresh and in good condition, no smell. Housekeeping doing a very good job, you know when there are no dust in the ventilation and behind the TV and everything is clean. Did not smell smoke anywhere in the hotel.

The double bed is medium soft, 2 good pillows and one extra also in the room. A basic office table, a chair and a fancy stool completes the room.

They provide a hair dryer, tissues and a TV (about 30-40 channels, mostly in French). No slippers, no kettle, no fridge, no safe. I was prepared, brought my own kettle and slippers. The sockets are quite limited. The WiFi works well.

The pressure in the shower is acceptable and the shower cabin doesn't leak any water. Hot water within seconds. The water in Luxembourg from the tap is approved for drinking and here it tastes very good. Bring empty bottles to refill, no need to buy water.

The breakfast has, to be this kind of hotel, a quite good spread. Fresh orange juice - you feed the machine with oranges, lot of cold cuts, cheese, fruits, vegetables, good quality bread, scrambled eggs, bacon, baked beans, yoghurt, cereals, pancakes machine (did not try), cakes. Thus, exceeded my expectations. Not crowded at all, I think the hotel has low occupancy rate at the moment. Opening times, 06.00 - 10.00, on weekends 06.00 - 11.00. If you want, take away breakfast 04.00 - 06.00.

There are a restaurant and a bar at the hotel, did not use besides the breakfast and the welcome drink. I asked for an Irish coffee - which was on the drink menu - as a welcome drink, but was denied. Wine, beer and non alcohol only as welcome drinks. Ended up with a takeaway double cappucino, did not feel for house wine of unknown quality or beer. In my opinion, hotels should offer spirits as a welcome drink to platinum+ members.

No local restaurants or stores nearby, but easy to go to restaurants and a big supermarket by local transport, (see below).

The gym is minimalistic, did not use.

The staff are helpful and businesslike. The ones I talked to did speak very good English, besides the cleaner, but we could communicate anyway for what I needed.

Value? I paid €62/night including breakfast, which was a quite good deal.

Location wise, this is not bad at all. Local transports in Luxembourg are free of charge. Bus 29 goes from the airport (quai 3) , first stop is outside the hotel (stop name: "Senningerberg, Lou Hemmer") and continues to the central city. It runs every 15 - 30 minutes (you find the time table on the net) and takes around 20 minutes to the city. There are other buses stopping here, but did not use them. The tram runs from the airport in a turn around to the city. It runs about every 10 minutes. After around 10 minutes on the tram you can stop at "Alphonse Weicker", and in the direction of the tram, you have a big shopping mall 1 minutes walk to the right. Lot of stores, restaurants, cafeterias and a very big supermarket here, named Auchan. Thought, the mall is closed on Sundays (by law), besides a Burger King restaurant which is open.

The hotel do provide airport transport, you call them when you arrive and they pick you up, but because the local buses are free and I had to wait 5 minutes only for number 29, I did take the local bus instead to the hotel. You can also walk to the hotel, about 6-8 minutes and easy to find, you see the hotel and the IBIS sign from when you come out from the airport building.
