Saskatoon family boards plane in Cancun. Child vomits after boarding. WestJet says they can't fly, and they get off the plane.
And - somehow - this is deemed "news" by Global TV.
The family is upset that WestJet and/or Sunwing (a WestJet flight booked via Sunwing) didn't take care of their medical needs for them, or arrange for medical services for their vomiting kid. Because, as parents, it's clearly the airline's responsibility (not theirs) to arrange care for their child. And they further claim that Sunwing would not permit them to go to the hospital -- because apparently Sunwing staff are in full control of what people do as they exit the Cancun airport?!
And the Mom's Facebook post is linked in the news article. It includes:
I will likely have to delete this as we prepare to take legal action.
... and mentions this, seemingly indicating that their travel insurance didn't cover everything...
Our stay in Mexico was extended by 2 days and our additional costs so far are around 17000 CAD (not including loss of wages due to continued illness once we arrived home)
And the article includes this:
Theyre investigating what action can be taken against the airline for their handling of the situation
People: Buying a ticket on an airline gives you transportation. It does not give you a nanny service. It does not mean that airline staff need to care for every aspect of your life until you return home. If you expect an airline to act as your medical concierge (simply because you have a boarding pass in hand), you probably should not travel. Anywhere. Ever.
