JER->MIA-LIM bags checked through?

I checked in at JER today with two bags. Final destination is Lima with a transfer in Miami. Both bags were checked through. The agent seemed to be a trainee and although she attached a “do not return to passenger in MIA” tag to the second bag, she hadn’t done that to the first before it had disappeared, and said she’d call it back for that.

Question (1) is a direct international to International check through available in Miami and does it work, (2) is there any way I can check transit status of bags tomorrow? I will be in the first wing for the 10am flight so can ask.
