China Eastern and Southern both seem to have dropped their prices to numerous Chinese destinations - too many to list, but Beijing, Xian, Chengdu, Kunming, Lijiang probably of most interest either for positioning onwards or tourism. Some legs operated by Shanghai Airlines depending on the routing. CA is price matching to limited destinations.
Extended TWOV rules mean no visa required for up to 10 days if flying onto a third country. I can't speak for CAN, but PEK and PVG are both very quick and easy for both transfers for the domestic leg, and applying for TWOV (sorry, cannot seem to insert the link for eligibility).
Example with China Southern to KMG at EUR1,093 with a single sub 4 hour change at CAN: Round trip to Kunming | Google Flights
Wide availability from now through the rest of the year, depending on the destination.
