Question about seating / hard product: we are booked in July for NZ24 AKL-YVR on what looks to be that leased 777 (it has 1-1-1 biz preferred, 1-2-1 biz, and ~4.5 rows of 2-4-2 PE). I've flown in J on that aircraft but not PE so am not familiar with it.
We are booked in Y roundtrip with a return on NZ5 (ordinary 777-300ER with 'economy stretch' available free to us). If you were upgrading 2 adults + 2 kids on only one of the two legs, would you ask for PE on the leased aircraft and Y on NZ5? Or the reverse?
Loadings are light in both directions so I think it will clear either way, but don't feel like spending the APD for both directions. It's been awhile since I've done longhaul in Y (with or without kids) as pretty much everything has either been upgraded or booked in PE or J, so I don't really remember if Economy Stretch makes a big difference (maybe it's the same as the old yellow frequent flier section?),
