There are some really odd situations that seem to crop up when it comes to awards.
For the last few months most were being priced at 8,000/night, but now I see a number have gone up to 10,000.
Some properties have zero availability, every day of the year.
Some might show no availability for a given week, but if you start the stay on a Sunday then there is availability all week.
Others show only Sunday as available for the entire year (Shinsaibashi, Osaka).
I had a bunch of bookings for Shinsaibashi at 8,000/night for April and May. Now it seems only Sundays are available and the price has bumped up to 10,000.
A recent Roppongi, Tokyo award I booked a couple months ago for 8,000 shows it was a "RewardSaver" (normally 10,000). It is the only time I have seen that designation though. Now Roppongi is showing availability but for 10,000 every night. Still a good deal considering the cash prices.
The system is always evolving, for better or worse, so it pays to grab a good rate when you have the chance.
