Help! WN responsible for hotel or not?

In STL, inbound aircraft is late and is going to cause me to misconnect to the final DAL-LIT flight of the night. Asked GA to check on reason for delay (WX or MX) to see what the situation is. Supervisor called Dallas and answer was that "pax were slow to board and that caused the delay". She (rudely) claimed this was out of their control and thus they wouldn't be on the hook for a hotel tonight in DAL as it was outside their control.

My argument is this is and operational issue and not act of God and as such they ought to be responsible for my misconnect. Trying to figure out who's right and what appropriate next steps are.

I understand there's a chance my DAL-LIT flight may be delayed and result in my making the original connection. If not, is there a customer service line I can contact instead?
