Flying AA from Des Moines, IA to DFW last Thursday a FA really got to me. I usually am pretty thick skinned, but this flipped my switch. I boarded the plane, took my seat 4F in first class, and put my tote bag under the seat in front of me (bulkhead 3F - I believe). I noticed there was someone else's bag under the seat too, so I pulled mine back up and notified the FA.
I let her know that the bag under the seat was not mine. So she said, well I can put yours in the overhead. Ok...really?!?! I said, excuse me, but I just informed you that there is an identified bag under the seat in front of me? She said, well it probably belongs to the person sitting in front of you and we really don't have assigned places to put bags. (Flipped my switch right then and there!).
The person in front of me is in a bulkhead seat, shouldn't their bag be in the overhead? Did I not get the memo? - I didn't say that part, but I was thinking it. At this point, FA still has not asked the person in front of me if it is truly their bag. Hello - could this be a safety issue? Did the last person leave their bag? Or did the person in front of me just slip it under their seat?
So long story short...for the first time and having traveled for several years on AA I looked sternly at the FA and said in a low tone of voice...you - young lady know better than this and shame on you, I'm very disappointed!
Ok a tad funny now that I look back on it considering I'm a little 5'4 man 48 yrs old who works in Human Resources, but it worked!!
The FA immediately leaned over to the person in front of me and asked if the bag was theirs?..Yes.. the person replied and the FA took the bag and put it in the overhead. That simple! @:-)
Unfortunately, I've started to notice over the last several months, on most of my flights, FAs seem irritable. I used to have so much fun chatting it up with them, but it's starting to feel like FAs just want you to take your seat, be quit and pretend like their not there. :(
Hopefully it will get better...the new FAs seem to be friendly and sincere. Night ya'all.
