I was originally something like #8 with 7 seats showing available last week out of JFK and I was not expecting an upgrade and had stopped looking at the list. As I approached the gate I looked up and saw I was #4 with 6 available, so I was expecting a new seat assignment but when my BP was scanned, there was nothing. When I looked at the monitor, I was gone from the list. I asked the GA what had happened to my upgrade, and he said that if I was supposed to get the upgrade, it would have spit it out. I was too tired to go into it, so I just boarded. As I sat there, it was clear that there were still several seats open in F. I woke up enough to call Delta and they confirmed that there were several seats open in F and I should speak to the FA as seats were not under their control. I went up and asked the FA in F, who went and asked the GA, who magically produced a BP for 6B with my previous seat number written on it. I just took it and fell asleep. ???
