My 19 year old niece is enroute to a volunteer program, traveling RDU-MIA-PAP. The connection time in MIA is 12h 20m, and her plan was to remain in the terminal. However at RDU baggage checkin, she was told that due to the connecting time over 12h, she would be required to claim her baggage in MIA. So our questions are:
We're just trying to come up with the most logical game plan without needing to book a last minute hotel room. All thoughts/experiences appreciated!
- At MIA will there be active checkin desks at approximately 11:00 tonight and if so, will she be able to re-check the baggage any time within the 12 hour window?
- Will TSA allow re-clearance into the terminal area for a flight that departs tomorrow morning?
- If the bag is not claimed immediately, is it reasonable to expect AA baggage service to maintain possession of unclaimed bags for about 7 hours after delivery?
