I've been President's Circle for years at Hertz, and I haven't looked around in ages. I like the cars--in general, not a lot of poor-handling Detroit metal, I don't really need SUVs unless I'm camping, I want something fun to drive, and I value fast airport pickup.
I live in NYC, and use my points for occasional personal trips on weekends, that sort of thing.
So I was very unhappy to learn that as of 7/1, Hertz requires 24 hour advance booking to burn my (many, many) points. I was hoping to get out of town tomorrow, but no joy.
This arbitrary restriction of my life makes me think I should consider alternative car agencies. I also choose the preferred rental car agency for my firm, so there is a multiplier here. In general, we still need fast airport pickup at SFO, BOS, JFK, ORD, LAX, SAN, and so on.
But would the wisdom of my colleagues assembled here suggest that I might find better cars, better service, more flexible redemption, if I were to turn my firm's business to another company? Which company might you propose?
It is such a new idea to me to consider switching that I really have no idea. It's funny--I am AA EP, and I have a pretty good general notion of the UA offer, or the DL offer, or what have you. But I have been so loyal to Hertz for so long that I haven't considered what my alternatives might be.
Please advise, kind Flyertalk colleagues.
