Curious about those who fly with (severe) pet allergies.

Yesterday was my once a year "pilgrimage" with Mr. Leo, my 5 year old mixed breed, 6kg rescue dog. I only bring him back to the States when I'm going to be here for an extended (4-5 week) period during the summer. Otherwise, he really enjoys the pet boarding place outside of Amsterdam.

No issues at Schiphol, which is a super dog friendly airport. (dogs are allowed out of carrier in all areas of the airport, including the KLM Crown Lounge).

Reservation booked and noted months ago, and 200€ fee paid after check-in (and "PET IN CABIN" noted on boarding pass).

I follow the rules, and use an approved under-seat carrier for Mr. Leo (as much as he hates it); and I also have been using a mild sedative to calm him down (mostly because I'm very concerned about having a very quiet and courteous flight).

Settled into 13H on an A330-300, last one to board. While on the runway, passenger in row 11 (I "think") starts to "freak out" to one of the flight attendants that they have a "severe" dog allergy.

As you know, or perhaps you don't, Delta allows up to four "in-cabin" pets on international flights in economy class. No pets are allowed in BusinessElite on international flights (hence, one of the few times in the past year, I've been in Economy Comfort instead of BusinessElite; which was a shame, since upgrades would have cleared easily for this flight).

I of course, take the "high road," and tell one of the flight attendants I'd be more than happy to move from my 13H Economy Comfort seat all the way to the back (turned out to be 35H). We make the switch very rapidly, since we are just about ready to take-off.

So, my question, how does one with "severe" pet allergies NOT INFORM Delta of such things when they fly? Is it not the responsibility of those with pet allergies to advise Delta and the gate-agents working the flight? Do people just assume that there are NO PETS on international flights (though, if you go to delta.com, you can clearly see pets are accepted on international flights).

Just find it irritating that people don't seem to be responsible for their s&it.

It's stressful enough, traveling with an animal; even worse, when people think that their allergies are > than my ability to transport a pet.

<rant over> :D

BTW, Mr. Leo made less noise than the baby/toddler back in my section of Y. :D
