Hi All.
Working on taking my family on a trip next spring using miles (and me on paid ticket). Complicating factor is that my sister and brother-in-law are not sold on the idea yet but I want to book them tickets to secure the availability.
I'm currently Gold, but will be Platinum by the end of November. Per united, golds get charged a $100 redeposit fee (per passenger) for miles used on award tickets. Platinums do not.
Question is, if I book them award tickets now as a gold (to secure the availablity) and they decide not to go, and I cancel once I've turned platinum, which status level applies for redeposit fee purposes?
CS agent said the status at the time of booking is the one that applies, but I thought I'd see if anyone has encountered this situation previously and if this really is the case. (Esp since I don't quite see United tracking historical status).
Thanks in advance!
