Checking your reservation status after making a change

I'll try to keep this short, but I think this will be an important reminder for many people.

I'm flying on an award ticket next month MSY-CLT-OSL (where I'm beginning a RTW itinerary). I had built in a 12-hour layover at LHR because who doesn't mind having 12 hours to head into London for breakfast and/or lunch before continuing onward, but a couple of months after ticketing this I decided that I would rather get into Oslo early than have the time in London. I called AA and the very helpful agent was able to move me to an early BA LHR-OSL flight.

I certainly know when making a change like this to check my reservation online to make sure everything looks ok. I pulled it up on the AA app and everything looked perfect. I then pulled up the BA segment on BA.com to make sure BA was seeing my reservation; it came up no problem and I was able to select a seat on the BA flight.

Just now, a week or so later, I was on the AA website (not the app) for an unrelated reason. When I clicked on "Manage trips / Check in," my five next trips, including my MSY-CLT-OSL trip, appeared and everything looked fine. But when I then clicked on "View all," which pulled up all of my upcoming AA reservations, for the first time the "Status" of each of my reservations appeared. That does not come up on the app and does not come up on the website unless you click on the "View all" link. And for the first time since I made the change I saw that this reservation was still listed as "on request," which we all know can often be an indication of a problem. I then clicked on the specific reservation and an error message ("We are experiencing technical difficulties and are unable to display your reservation at this time") came up; I then went to the app and, as before, I was able to pull up and see the reservation, although, again, the app showed no indication of any problem. Before calling AA, I logged on to BA.com again and saw my reservation listed as "confirmed," so I wasn't panicked, but I knew I had to call AA.

It took about 20 minutes on the phone with AA and everything got straightened out. The agent told me she had to call the ticketing department, and the ticketing department directed her to call a different department and then to call ticketing back afterwards. The agent told me afterwards that what had happened was that there had been a schedule change prior to my making the change to a different flight, and the two competing changes confused the system in some way that took two different departments to sort. Whether or not that was accurate -- I have no reason to believe that it isn't, but sometimes these situations confuse even the agents -- everything got sorted and now I'm all set.

So just a longish story to remind all of us to periodically check the "status" of our reservations, especially after making a change. And someone please tell me if there's any way to check on the status on the app as opposed to the website. I feel like I just got lucky being on the website as opposed to the app.
