I have seen this discussed on LHR-SIN turbulance thread but not in a standalone so created for ease of search.
I flew SQ255 (1am dep Sin-BNE) today J for first time since turbulence incident and shocked how ludicrous their infllight service timing has become. Mind you this is 7.5 hour effective fllight time.
3hr10min before landing i was waken up for Breakfast. in the past they were willing to service me 90mim before landing. I fly QF/CX monthly to Aus from HK who service 90min...so i finished this and went back to bed with 2hr 45min left on journey
1hr before landing the seatbelt sign went on with pilot announcement for cabin preparation. i was wokwn up told to upright my seat. mind u out of 7.5hr flight basocally 13pct of my flight time i am told to sit upright at cruising altitude... AgaIn for comparison CX/QF makes "prepare cabin" at 25min whem actual descent starts. which follows the end of meal time perfectly. And flight didnt even commence descent until 25min prior like any other airlines.
I understand they were shocked and playing safe but this simply reduce rest particulary for AUS red eye and not even effective apart from pure nauisance in my eyes. If they expected turbulence i understand but feels like just beurocratic rule following without being pragmatic
