Sloppy and messy crew in J (OSL-DOH)

The motto of Qatar airways as we know is - consistently inconsistent !

Encountered one of the most dysfunctional set of J crew on today’s OSL-DOH flight, probably the worst bunch I’ve seen in the past 6+ years!

Some points to summarise from the flight:
  • Purser was no where to be seen for the entire flight, In fact I actually never met him! No greetings during boarding, nothing before landing as well. He never greeted any pax, this was on a 50% filled J cabin. Not sure if he is lazy or just not feeling it. Pretty sure he broke various inflight SOPs by doing this.
  • Crew failed to secure the insides of one of the galley cart/boxes not sure - as we took off rolling in the runway, a barraging flood of liquid (I am not kidding, it was at least 2-3 full buckets of questionable liquid) came pouring from the galley all the way through to the first row of business class seats and it even splashed a bit on me). Well luckily no one was seated in the middle row else their shoes would have been completely soaked. The shocking part was that the crew completely ignored the situation, did not even apologise to anyone or more importantly, made any attempt to clean it! Mind you were not talking about a minor spill here, I’m talking about the whole galley floor being completely wet, liquid all over the galley walls and even on the galley counters, the FA seated there was completely unbothered and went on with her duties stepping all over the puddles on the galley like nothing happened, what on earth! I was seated in 1K and I’m sure they wouldn’t be that stupid to not realise that I and the passengers behind me witnessed it all… anyways instead of cleaning the “mess”, the crew just continued working with the liquid mess everywhere. Strange and messy. I asked them about it and they just laughed it off without responding to my question, I didn’t bother to waste my energy asking further as I knew what kind of crew was in store today from then on.
  • I asked if I could have the soup as well for the pre-landing meal on top of the other shrimp appetiser if they had any spares (mind you I wasn’t insisting to have both, was simply asking if they had any spares ones). Male CC condescendingly said to me that he can’t do that because I already ordered breakfast as well after take off, like what on earth? He then went on how this was a 6 hour flight and that usually they would only allow you to choose either Breakfast or Lunch but because I was the first one in the cabin to make an order he allowed me to have both….yeah sure, every other passenger on that flight had both breakfast and lunch. Not sure if this guy was just poorly trained or trying to make excuses..so that was fine, so I settled with no soup and just the shrimp appetiser.
  • Fast forward to lunch before landing and guess what, same CC who claimed I was “the first one to order in the cabin” said they’d run out of the shrimp appetiser and asked if I would like the soup instead. At this point I was very annoyed and didn’t want to argue, so just said yes. It is strange though that they’d claim to “run out of the shrimp appetiser” while I think what actually happened is they gave it to someone else or something else, I don’t know. What’s the point of confirming my orders right at the beginning of the flight if you’re just going to give it to someone else 5 hours later…this CC was just off.
  • Also the usual issue of zero proactiveness on asking what you want to drink with your meal and offering refills which is quite the norm these days.
  • Galley was a complete pandemonium mess with food/stuff dropped all over the floor, items being dropped/broken every 10 minutes, stacking trays of dirty used plates and trays in the bassinet area of bulkhead while they sort out the messy disorganised galley that is.

For context this was on the regular (non-QSuites) A359…cabin was only c.50% full. I had some of my best flights on numerous full non-qsuite A359 flights so I do not think the type of aircraft is the issue at all, most likely just bad luck with a particularly extremely bad set of crew combined with Purser who can’t be bothered with his job.

What a stark contrast to the absolutely amazing crew on my onwards 55 min shuttle flight to DXB, just how it is with QR these days, consistently inconsistent.
