I'm planning to bring my family to Japan and I'm contemplating how to handle the long flight with a 1½ year old kid.
I got enough Avios to buy Economy tickets and upgrade us (two adults) both to Japan and back. I assume the kid would also be upgraded since she is under 2 years old and will share seat with one of us. That plan requires available seats in J for us, which brings me to the next question. Should I fly to HND or NRT?
When I look at the website, the HND route seems to be almost always full in J, while the NRT route doesn't. Booking NRT would seem to be the smarter option if we want to upgrade.
At the same time, I could also just buy J tickets for us and hope there is an extra available seat for my kid. I don't think there is enough space for an adult and kid to sleep at the same time, but the kid should be able to sleep while one of us watches a movie.
And for those of you that hate the idea of a kid in J, my kid already learned how to equalize the pressure, so no screaming during landing and take off.
