I thought I might see something on here about Tony Benn's death, didn't, so thought I'd venture this. Possibly very off topic but please forgive me mods if so.
Without getting into pro/cons of his politics, there's no doubt that he loved flying and saved Concorde.

UK Politicians before and after him seemed to want to avoid aviation (beyond tax/ grudging infra issues) and either leave it to the market, or view it as something they don't want to get involved in (because of connotations of 'luxury/ privilege' etc)
Put it this way - who's the current UK aviation Minister? I love flying and follow politics, but couldn't tell you!
