Changes in 787-9 Flying and Utilization

Refund after flight change to same date and itinerary as original

$
0
0
I was randomly checking date change options for a I class (Business Light) flight I booked few months ago. It shows me $10 total refund if I select same as original itinerary for 2 pax all included. I find it weird it even allows that. And it shows the change fee as 0 in the final page. If I change the date, it does show a change fee.

Since the fare code is same as original, am I missing anything by doing this change? If need to make further changes in future, it shouldn't effect right?

Introduction to easyJet: A Comprehensive Guide for Travellers
easyJet, headquartered at London Luton Airport, is one of Europe’s leading low-cost carriers, known for its extensive network, competitive pricing, and no-frills approach to air travel. Since its founding in 1995, easyJet has revolutionised short-haul flying, making it accessible and affordable for millions of passengers each year. With a modern fleet of Airbus A319, A320, and A321 aircraft, the airline serves over 160 airports in 35 countries, operating more than 1,000 routes across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

Route Network and Connectivity
easyJet’s network is one of the largest in Europe, with major bases at London Gatwick, London Luton, Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh, and Liverpool, as well as key European hubs such as Geneva, Milan Malpensa, and Berlin Brandenburg. The airline offers a strong mix of business and leisure destinations, connecting major cities like Paris, Amsterdam, and Rome, as well as popular holiday spots such as Alicante, Faro, and the Greek Islands.

Key Points:
• Extensive coverage of both primary and secondary airports.
• Frequent flights on high-demand routes, ideal for business and weekend getaways.
• Seasonal routes to sun and ski destinations.

Fares, Booking, and Flexibility
easyJet operates on a point-to-point model with a focus on simplicity and transparency. The basic fare includes a seat and one small under-seat cabin bag (max 45 x 36 x 20 cm). Additional services, such as checked baggage, larger cabin bags, and seat selection, are available for a fee.

Fare Options:
• Standard Fare: Includes one small cabin bag. Additional items and services are à la carte.
• Inclusive Plus Fare: Offers unlimited free changes to dates and routes, one hold bag (23kg), seat selection (including Up Front or Extra Legroom), priority boarding, and a complimentary onboard snack and (non-alcoholic) drink. This was previously marketed as FLEXI Fare. More details will be found in the dedicated topic found here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/easy...-overview.html
• easyJet Plus: Annual membership providing benefits such as dedicated bag drop, extra cabin bag, speedy boarding, and fast-track security at select airports. More details will be found in the dedicated topic found here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/easy...ral-guide.html
• FlightConnections by easyJet: You can only book single or return bookings with easyJet. If you want to book more than one route, you’ll need to do this by creating individual bookings on easyJet.com. If you’d like to book connecting flights, either to destinations across Europe or further across the world, you can do this via Connections by easyJet. More details will be found in the dedicated topic found here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/easy...nnectsure.html

Booking Tips:
• Book early for the best prices; fares typically rise as the flight date approaches.
• Use the easyJet app for mobile check-in, digital boarding passes, and notifications.
• Manage bookings online, including adding extras or changing flights.
• Pre-book your carry-on and checked baggage needs to avoid higher charges at the airport.
• Buy Food and Drink Vouchers before travel to enjoy a discount for onboard purchases.

Seating Policy
easyJet operates an allocated seating system on all flights. Passengers can choose and reserve seats for a fee during booking or any time before check-in via the website or mobile app. If you do not select a seat, one will be automatically assigned at check-in. The system aims to seat groups on the same booking together, but this is subject to availability and not guaranteed—early check-in increases your chances of sitting together.

Up Front and Extra Legroom Seats are available for an additional fee, offering priority boarding and more space. Up Front Seats are free for easyJet Plus cardholders and passengers with Inclusive Plus fares. Extra Legroom Seats are free for easyJet Plus cardholders and offered at a discounted rate for Inclusive Plus fares.

If you’ve not already checked-in you can add or change seats up until two hours before your flight departs by logging in to Manage Bookings. If you’ve already checked-in and want to change your seats you’ll need to contact Customer Service and they will make the changes for you.

Cabin Experience and Onboard Services
All easyJet flights operate a single-class cabin with three seating options: Standard, Up Front, and Extra Legroom. Seats are pre-assigned unless you pay to select your preference.

Onboard Amenities:
• No complimentary food or drink; a wide selection of snacks, sandwiches, hot meals, and beverages is available for purchase via the “Eat. Drink. Shop” service.
• Duty-free shopping is offered on most international flights. Alcohol Duty-free products are not available on flights between two EU/EEC countries.
• Contactless payments only—no cash accepted onboard.
• Passengers may bring their own food, but hot drinks and alcohol are subject to restrictions.
• Some aircraft offer WiFi (for a fee) and digital magazines via the easyJet app.

Food and Drink Vouchers
easyJet offers food and drink vouchers that passengers can purchase in advance, often at a discount (e.g., a £10 voucher for £8), to spend onboard their flights. These vouchers can be bought during online check-in or via the easyJet website and app. The vouchers are shown on your boarding pass or app for easy redemption onboard.

If you add vouchers after booking, you will receive them via email; otherwise, if purchased with your ticket, the voucher details are included on your boarding pass. The voucher can then be redeemed onboard by showing it to the crew.

Food and Drink Voucher rules:
• Validity: The voucher is only valid on the flight for which it was purchased or issued. It cannot be used on other flights or at the airport.
• Redemption: The voucher is typically encoded on your boarding pass or shown via the easyJet app. You present this to the cabin crew when making purchases from the onboard Eat.Drink.Shop service.
• Usage: The voucher amount can be used towards meal deals (main, drink, snack) and other onboard purchases. If your purchase exceeds the voucher value, you pay the difference by card. If you spend less, the remaining balance is usually lost as the voucher must be used in full on that flight.
• Purchase: Vouchers can be bought during online check-in or added to your booking beforehand.
• No cash value: Vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash or used outside the flight. They are non-transferable and non-refundable.
• Tips: Always check your boarding pass or app carefully to confirm the voucher is present before boarding. When using the voucher, ask to see the payment terminal total to avoid overcharges.

Boarding Process:
• Boarding is usually via both front and rear doors to speed up turnaround, check your Boarding Pass to see which door you should use.
• Speedy Boarding is available for Inclusive Plus Fare, easyJet Plus, and those who purchase the service separately.

Baggage Policies

Cabin Baggage:
• Standard fare includes one small bag (max 45 x 36 x 20 cm).
• Larger cabin bags (max 56 x 45 x 25 cm) are available for a fee or included with certain fare types and memberships.
• Strict enforcement at boarding gates; oversize bags incur charges.

Checked Baggage:
• Not included in the base fare; can be purchased in increments of 15kg, 23kg, or 32kg.
• Online pre-purchase is significantly cheaper than paying at the airport.
• Overweight bags are accepted subject to the payment of a per KG fee (£12per KG as of April 2025). Best to book in advance.
• If you haven’t pre booked Checked Bags you will be charged £50 per bag at the check-in desk.

easyJet allows every passenger to bring one small cabin bag on board free of charge. This bag must not exceed 45 x 36 x 20 cm (including handles and wheels) and should fit under the seat in front of you. The maximum weight allowed is 15 kg, and you must be able to lift and carry the bag yourself. No additional personal items (such as handbags or laptop bags) are permitted for free, so all essentials must fit within your single allowance. For those needing more space, a larger cabin bag (up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm, max 15 kg) can be brought on board if you purchase the option, are an easyJet Plus cardholder, or have booked a Inclusive Plus fare. This larger bag is stored in the overhead locker.

easyJet regularly check hand luggage compliance at the gate. Bags that exceed the allowed size or weight limits, or additional bags beyond the free allowance, may be placed in the aircraft hold at the gate and will incur a fee of £48 per bag (as of April 2025). This applies to oversized small cabin bags (over 45 x 36 x 20 cm), oversized large cabin bags (over 56 x 45 x 25 cm), and any large cabin bags not pre-booked or without the correct fare entitlement. easyJet encourages passengers to check their bag dimensions before travel to avoid charges and delays. They also provide self-service baggage gauges at many airports to verify compliance. Enforcement can vary by airport and gate staff, but the policy is generally strictly applied to prioritise space for those who have booked the correct allowance in advance.

FlightConnections and ConnectSure

What is easyJet FlightConnections?
FlightConnections by easyJet is a service designed to offer greater flexibility and reach for travellers by enabling seamless self-connected journeys across Europe and beyond. This product allows passengers to book connecting flights with easyJet as well as with selected partner airlines and Deutsche Bahn rail, opening up a wider range of destinations and travel options.

What is easyJet ConnectSure?
ConnectSure is an optional service available when booking through Connections by easyJet—the airline’s dedicated platform for self-connecting journeys. The service is powered by Dohop, their travel technology partner specialising in virtual interlining and connection protection. ConnectSure is designed to safeguard your journey when you combine easyJet flights, or mix easyJet with partner airlines (or Deutsche Bahn rail segments), in a single booking.

Key Features:
• Book multi-leg journeys combining easyJet flights, partner airlines, and train services, in one transaction.
• Connections are self-transfer: travellers must collect and re-check any hold luggage at the connecting airport, as bags are not automatically forwarded to the final destination.
• Minimum connection times (typically 2 hours 30 minutes) are designed to ensure sufficient time for baggage collection and re-checking, reducing the risk of missed connections.
• The service is available across a wide network, including over 170 airports, making it one of the most extensive connection offerings among European low-cost carriers.

Protection and Support:
• For added peace of mind, the optional ConnectSure (self-transfer protection) can be purchased for an additional fee (see below). This covers rebooking costs if delays or cancellations cause you to miss your connection, providing benefits such as:
• Free rebooking onto a new flight
• Overnight accommodation if required
• 24/7 customer service support, handled by Dohop, easyJet’s technology partner.
• Customer assistance is available round-the-clock via phone, email, and chat, ensuring help is on hand in case of disruption.

Additional Information:
• easyJet does not hold flights for connecting passengers, so it is essential to adhere to the recommended minimum connection times.
• Bookings are made directly via easyJet’s website or the dedicated FlightConnections portal, not through third parties.
• Travellers with hold luggage should factor in the need to clear immigrationa and customs and re-check bags during connections.
• The service is powered by Dohop, which manages the booking platform and customer support for disruptions.
• Frequent flyers may also benefit from easyJet’s broader loyalty offerings, such as easyJet Plus and Flight Club, which provide perks like priority boarding and flexible ticket options. More details will be found in the dedicated topics found here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/easy...ral-guide.html and https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/easy...ight-club.html

Why Use FlightConnections by easyJet?
This product is ideal for those seeking affordable, flexible travel across multiple legs without the complexity and cost of traditional interline or codeshare agreements. It opens up new routes and combinations previously unavailable on low-cost carriers, making it a valuable tool for frequent and adventurous travellers looking to maximise their options across Europe and beyond.

Tip: Always check your itinerary carefully, allow ample time for connections, and consider adding ConnectSure protection for added security and peace of mind. Please ensure you are in possession of all necessary travel documents required for entry into each country on your itinerary, including any intermediate countries you may transit through.

How Does ConnectSure Work?
When you book a connecting itinerary via Connections by easyJet, you’ll be offered the option to add ConnectSure for an additional fee. This protection covers you in the event of a missed connection due to a delay or cancellation on any leg of your journey.

Key Benefits of ConnectSure:
• Guaranteed Rebooking: If you miss your onward flight due to a delay or cancellation, ConnectSure ensures you are rebooked on the next available flight to your final destination at no extra cost.
• Accommodation & Meals: If your new flight requires an overnight stay, ConnectSure covers hotel accommodation and, in many cases, meal expenses.
• 24/7 Multilingual Support: Dohop’s support team is available around the clock to assist with rebooking, claims, and any travel disruption queries.
• No Additional Fees: All costs for rebooking and accommodation are covered under the ConnectSure protection, so you won’t face unexpected expenses.
• Rail & Air Integration: ConnectSure also applies to itineraries combining easyJet flights with Deutsche Bahn rail segments, making it ideal for those connecting via major European hubs.

Booking Process and What to Expect
• How to Book: ConnectSure is only available when booking through the official Connections by easyJet platform (not at the airport or via third-party travel agents).
• Separate Tickets: Each segment (flight or rail) is ticketed separately, but the ConnectSure service links them for disruption protection.
• Self-Transfer: Passengers are responsible for collecting checked luggage and re-checking it for the next leg after EACH flight. Allow extra time for this process at the connecting/transiting airport.
• Minimum Connection Times: The platform automatically enforces minimum connection times to reduce the risk of missed connections.

What Happens If You Miss a Connection?
If a disruption occurs (and you have purchased ConnectSure):
1. Contact Dohop Support: Use the contact details provided in your booking confirmation. Support is available 24/7.
2. Rebooking: Dohop will arrange a new flight or rail ticket to your final destination at no extra cost.
3. Accommodation: If your new departure is the next day, Dohop will book and pay for a hotel and, where applicable, meals.
4. Documentation: Keep receipts and all travel documents in case you need to make a claim or request reimbursement.

Who Should Use ConnectSure?
• Business Travellers: Those with tight schedules who can’t afford to miss meetings or events.
• Leisure Travellers: Holidaymakers with onward connections, especially when travelling with family or children.
• Adventurous Itinerary Builders: Travellers combining air and rail to reach less accessible destinations.

Limitations and Considerations
Not for Through-Checked Bags: easyJet and most partners do not transfer checked luggage between flights. Always allow enough time for immigration, baggage collection and customs clearance at each intermediate point and re-check.
• Not a Full Travel Insurance: ConnectSure only covers missed connections and related disruptions, not medical emergencies or other travel issues. While ConnectSure covers connection-related disruptions, comprehensive travel insurance is still recommended for other unforeseen events.
• Available Only on Connections by easyJet: You must book your entire itinerary on the platform to be eligible.
• Baggage and seat selection must be purchased separately for each flight segment

easyJet Plus: a General Guide

easyJet Plus: General Guide
easyJet Plus is easyJet’s premium annual membership scheme, designed for travellers who regularly fly with the airline and want to experience a smoother, more flexible and comfortable journey. For an annual fee (currently £249), easyJet Plus unlocks a suite of exclusive benefits that can save both time and money, while adding convenience at every stage of your trip.

What is easyJet Plus?
Launched to bridge the gap between budget air travel and the perks of legacy carriers, easyJet Plus is a loyalty product rather than a traditional frequent flyer points programme. Instead of earning miles, members receive guaranteed benefits on every booking, regardless of fare type or destination, as long as the flight is operated by easyJet.

Core Benefits Explained

1. Free Seat Selection on Every Flight: One of the most valuable perks is the ability to choose any seat (including Up Front, Extra Legroom, or standard seats) at no additional cost. This is a significant saving, especially for those who prefer extra space or want to sit together with family or colleagues.

2. Speedy Boarding:easyJet Plus members are among the first to board, ensuring access to overhead locker space and a calmer boarding experience. This is particularly useful on busy routes or when travelling with hand luggage only.

3. Dedicated Bag Drop Desks: At most airports, easyJet Plus members have access to exclusive check-in and bag drop desks, significantly reducing waiting times during busy periods.

4. Fast Track Security: Enjoy access to fast track security lanes at over 40 major European airports, including London Gatwick, Manchester, and Edinburgh. This can be a real timesaver, especially during peak travel times.

5. Increased Cabin Baggage Allowance: Members are entitled to bring a large cabin bag (up to 56 x 45 x 25cm) on board free of charge, in addition to a small under-seat item. This benefit alone can offset a significant portion of the membership fee for frequent hand-luggage travellers, as easyJet’s standard fares only include a small cabin bag.

6. Free Same-Day Flight Changes: If you need to return earlier than planned, you can switch to an earlier easyJet flight on the same day for free (subject to seat availability). This must be arranged after the outbound flight has been taken and is ideal for business travellers or those with unpredictable schedules.

7. Onboard Discounts: easyJet Plus members receive 10% off all food and drink purchases from the onboard Eat.Drink.Shop. menu, excluding duty-free alcohol. This is automatically applied when you show your digital membership card.

8. Price Promise: If the price of your booked seat drops after you purchase it, easyJet will refund the difference as a flight voucher. This applies only to the member’s own seat and must be claimed before departure.

Membership Details & How It Works

• Digital Membership: easyJet Plus is now fully digital, with membership cards available for Apple Wallet or Google Pay. This card must be shown at the airport and onboard to access benefits.
• Annual Fee: £249/€289 per year (as of April 2025), with automatic renewal unless cancelled.
• Family & Business Options: Additional cards can be purchased for partners and children at a reduced rate, and businesses can manage multiple memberships for employees.
• Booking Process: Log in with your easyJet Plus account when booking to automatically apply benefits. For some perks (like fast track security), you may need to show your digital card at the airport.

Who Should Consider easyJet Plus?

• Frequent Flyers: If you fly with easyJet more than 5-6 times per year, the savings and convenience can easily outweigh the annual fee.
• Business Travellers: The flexibility of same-day flight changes and fast track security are particularly valuable for those with dynamic schedules.
• Families and Groups: Free seat selection and priority boarding make group travel more comfortable and less stressful.
• Hand-Luggage Only Travellers: The large cabin bag allowance can save substantial fees over multiple trips.

Additional Considerations
• Not a Points Programme: easyJet Plus does not offer points or tiered status. Benefits are fixed and apply to the member only (unless additional cards are purchased).
• Availability: Some benefits, such as fast track security and dedicated bag drop, may not be available at all airports or on all flights.
• Booking for Others: Benefits only apply to the named member unless extra cards are purchased for companions.
• Combine with easyJet Holidays: Membership benefits also apply to flights booked as part of easyJet Holidays packages.

• Name Changes: Some Inclusive Plus fares allow free name changes, which is useful for corporate bookings (check with your booking agent for specifics).
• Changes can be made up to 2 hours before departure of your ticketed flight, and cannot be made within the first 24 hours after purchase.

How to Book
• Availability: Inclusive Plus fares are not always visible on the easyJet website and are primarily offered via travel management companies, business travel agents, and some online travel agencies.
• Booking Window: Usually available up to three months before departure, but subject to allocation limits per flight.

Things to Consider
• Benefit Use: Perks are for the Inclusive Plus ticket-holder only and are not transferable.
• Refunds: No refund for unused benefits or if you switch to a cheaper flight.
• Cabin Bag Space: Overhead locker space is limited; Speedy Boarding helps but is not a guarantee if you arrive late at the gate.
• Airport Experience: Fast Track and dedicated bag drop are only available at select airports—check your departure airport in advance.
• Lounge Access: Inclusive lounge access is limited to just seven UK airports.

Who Should Choose Inclusive Plus?
• Business Travellers: Value flexibility, speed, and comfort.
• Frequent Flyers: Appreciate bundled extras and reduced hassle.
• Leisure Travellers: Those who want a more premium experience without the high price tag of traditional business class.

MDT-PHL-ACK w/38 min cnx in July

Need some advice about booking MDT-PHL-ACK in JUL on AA for my wife and 90 year old MIL. They would arrive PHL on AA 5712 (operated by Piedmont) and depart 38 min later on AA 4518 (operated by Republic) with the ominous warning that it requires a change of terminals! Is that feasible and would there be wheelchair/electric cart service available to improve the odds of making this legally booked cnx — they arrive in Economy and depart in First!

Booked in paid J and on the waitlist for J

Probably an agent error, but still I’ve never seen this before.

Flying today LAX-MSY in paid J. I was originally on a LAX-DFW-MSY routing, but due to a significant flight delay, I changed to LAX-PHL-MSY. While sitting in the FL at LAX, I noticed that LAX-PHX-MSY was available in J and would get me home significantly earlier. I went to the counter in the FL, but the J seat LAX-PHX disappeared before the agent could grab it. No problem; I told the agent to put me in Y on that flight and J PHX-MSY. I also told the agent that I needed to head to the gate while she still was working on the changes, as I had to rush from the FL to Terminal 5 and to the Eagles Nest for the LAX-PHX flight.

I got to the Eagles Nest just in time, but when I settled into my seat, I noticed that I was in Y on the PHX-MSY flight and on the upgrade list, even though it was showing J1 and even though I had a paid J ticket. I didn’t have time to call, so I messaged a friend with all of my details and asked him to call for me.

So I’m now sitting at PHX about to board. My friend was able to call and get me the last J seat. I’m all checked in and assigned seat 1B. But I’m also still on the upgrade list. I’m not on the list with a check mark showing me as having cleared. I’m on the waitlist hoping to clear like all of the other waitlist passengers. Never seen that before.

Overtourism Armageddon - is there a balanced view?

So, I'm very happy to be off to Japan this summer. This will be my 4th visit, but my (8yo) son's first. And yes, I know what summer is like, but there's literally no other time of year we can do it.

Of course, you can't miss the overtourism headlines. If it were just me and MrsStut, we'd probably head straight down to Shikoku or Kyushu (probably with a pitstop in Kyoto). But it's not, it's with a small boy who, as much as he's enthused with Samurai and Kami, also wants Pokémon, cats on billboards, Godzilla... So yes, we'll be on the tourist trail.

I'm under no illusions around how busy it can get. 10 years ago, the crowds were mainly a mixture of domestic and East Asian tour groups. Nakamise-Dori, Senso-ji, Kiyomizudera, Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama, Kinkaku-ju, Gingkaku-ji - these were all places you went at quieter times, or visited briefly, or walked 5 minutes from the main attractions and still found magic just round the corner.

So, how much has changed? I appreciate there are more independent tourists and complaints about behaviour, but I'm also very aware of how social media shines a spotlight on a handful of incidents to present something that is very far from the full story.

But how is it actually, on the ground? I am expecting it to be very busy in the popular places - of course it will be. But has it changed to the point where seriously need to change my plans and expectations?

(Apologies for typos, this is a mobile post and these contact lenses are terrible for reading)

Moxy Plymouth UK

Just had a stay here and was a pretty standard Moxy experience.

They had a sign stating that they would now be taking a pre-authorisation of £30 for any stay. Nothing unusual about a pre-authorisation for incidentals but not seen a fixed fee regardless of stay or it being signed so prominently.

For whatever reason it was causing some issues with folk ahead of us on check out!

As Moxy move away from Muk products (the new ones are actually quite nice), there were two tables at the entrance full of Muk products to be taken for free by anyone. Not seen this before but it beats them being thrown away.

Location is fine; it’s a 15 minute walk towards the Barbican or the older area (well, the area not as bombed in the war) so not as close as other hotels but Plymouth is a small city so it’s a perfectly acceptable walk.

The area is a little… construction-y. Over the next few years expect some residential buildings going up.

Highly recommend popping over to the pub/restaurant over the road, the Salumi. We had Easter Sunday roast there and it was excellent and well worth the £20!

Platinum status guests seat charge?

Hey Everyone.. Anyone here notice that they started to restrict the seats available for Platinum status guests? The website shows that I should be able to choose the "premium" seats at check in for everyone on the reservation. This should include exit row, but does not include the front 2 rows. I checked into a flight last night for later today. It allowed me to choose any seat for myself (Platinum member) but was asking me to pay $50 for my wife in the exit row. Even checking it again with 12 hours of the flight, the front row showed free for me but the exit row was still a $50 charge if I booked that for my wife.

Isnt this supposed to be free for the Platinum status? Did they make a change they didnt announce? Overall, not a huge deal since its only an hour and a half flight, but longer flights would certainly be an inconvenience.

New Hotel (Capella Taipei) Opens in Taipei

Capella Taipei opened a few weeks ago, bringing a new, much-needed luxury option to the city. Here's a YouTube video on the hotel.

Located in Taipei’s Dunhua North Road district, the hotel will offer 86 rooms, including eight suites and six rooms with private pool terraces.Interiors are the work of acclaimed interior designer, André Fu, and feature a neutral palette and lots of natural light to create a calming atmosphere.

Facilities include a pool on the 14th floor, two events spaces (the largest of which is 150 sqm), two boardrooms, a spa, and five restaurants serving different cuisines.

Curious to know if anyone on this site has stayed there yet and recommends it over, say, the Mandarin Oriental Taipei  Out of all self-styled luxury hotels we've stayed at in Taiwan (Mandarin Oriental, Shangri-La Far Eastern, Grand Hyatt, Regent Taipei, Miramar Garden Taipei, etc.), we've been most impressed by the Mandarin Oriental, though our hotel of choice has been the Shangri-La FE due to overall cost. Yet, I've had others say that Taipei's MO is far less grand than other MO hotels elsewhere, which--while I'll take folks' word as true--hasn't been very helpful to telling me which is the "best" hotel in Taipei to stay in. From the videos and other things I've seen about Capella, the MO seems nicer, but then again I haven't seen it in person.

The rates per night are also generally in the upper $500 range to just over $600 a night for a standard room at the Capella, which puts it above the MO for a price point comparison (but, then again, the W Taipei is often more expensive than the MO, which I and others have scratched our heads about sometimes). I wonder if this is sustainable, especially based on where it is located (not in the "best" location in the city) and/or what impact it will have on other luxury brand pricing, especially with the Four Seasons, Park Hyatt, etc., pending openings in Taipei.

We're planning to stay at least a night or two at the Capella (assuming the FS isn't open by then) during our next trip to Taipei in 2026, but that could change based on the reviews of the property that others may have!

RJ (RC/OW) Elite Miles issue buying

Hi all,

Posted this in the Royal Jordanian section but its not frequented very often and as it's a OneWorld alliance member I thought I might try here for more exposure if the MOD's do not mind.

Appreciate if anyone else who is a Royal Club member (minimum 5,000 tier miles) of RJ can let me know if the ELITE MILES section of the RJ website is letting you buy tier miles at the moment.

I am currently 1,515 tier miles away from Platinum Hawk (OWE) and only have 10 days to get status before tier miles start dropping off from the previous 12 months. I specifically did a Long haul run from ATH - ORD rtn last week to leave the small amount of tier miles remaining and was going to spend $200US purchasing 2,000 tier miles to get me over the line.

For the past 7 days I have logged in everyday and keep getting the same message on the ELITE MILES section (see below). It's infuriating because neither ringing Jordan or emailing their FFP gets me a straight answer. Pulling my hair out here due to needing these last 2,000 miles ASAP. Over the past year I have always had the ability to buy tier miles but never needed to, then when I need the facility, it's not working. For the record, my partner is also getting the same outcome.

TIA.

To POUG or not to POUG ?

I'm currently in my last couple of weeks (and probably my last ever weeks) of Silver, with almost all my flying needs now better met by Easyjet, Ryanair, Jet2, KLM and Turkish.

However, I do have a cheapo BA Economy ticket later this year SAW-LHR ($48 one way) and a POUG has popped up at $85.

(The BA UK site is quoting and charging in USD for this ex-Turkey flight so I will too).

Reflecting on value for money, I think I would come down roughly as follows:

No middle seat: worth $20 to me as I do like to have a bit more space;
Meal: worth $15 as I'll have to eat somewhere in any case and pre-flight in the terminal is not going to be much cheaper));
Alcohol: $10 with a nice, free-pouring crew and 4+ hours in the air, assuming it wasn't all drunk by the inbound pax...;
Lounge access @SAW: $20 (he quoted price for PP lounge there being €40 for 3 hours but I'm knocking a bit off as I'm unsure I would pay that willingly!!;
Priority Boarding: $10 on the assumption that's it's not as dysfunctional @ SAW as elsewhere :), also I don't know whether fast track security comes with a CE ticket;
Extra checked bag: $ 0 as I will be traveling HBO and don't expect to be hauling any bags.

So in my personal calculation, I am getting about $75 of value for an outlay of $85. Not the most compelling offer, but not terrible, and I am quite tempted, if only as a last gasp with BA :)

What to do :) ?

LAXMAD premium economy pricing

Hi all -- I'm looking at a round-trip LAX-MAD in Premium Economy for this coming September. On my preferred return date of Sat 27 September the price differential vs any of the other days is significant (3x) and I'm wondering if anyone here has any more insight as to why this might be the case, or if I could expect it to change.

The outbound flight is IB 352 (LAX-MAD) on Sat 13 Sept. The fare for this leg is currently pricing out at $1118 for "Flexible" as part of a round-trip LAX<>MAD search.

But on the return MAD-LAX flight IB 351 two weeks later, the pricing for the return leg on Saturday, and just on Saturday, is 3x (!) the pricing on any of the surrounding days:
  • Thu 25 Sep: $1091
  • Fri 26 Sep: $1191
  • Sat 27 Sep: $3595 -- I also noticed there is no "Optima" option on this day, and only on this day. Only a "Flexible" fare is available
  • Sun 28 Sep: $1191
  • Mon 29 Sep: $1191
Is this to be expected? I know that day-to-day differences are to be expected and a difference of several hundred dollars wouldn't be surprising to me. But a differential of +$2,400 for one day in particular seems crazy to me! It doesn't look like I've missed any Spanish (or American) holidays, but wondering if there's something else going on here.
